Scholarship Description

The Alabama Student Grant Program is a state student assistance program designed to provide financial assistance to residents of the State of Alabama for undergraduate study. Applicants must have obtained a certificate of graduation from a secondary school or the recognized equivalence of such graduation; be an Alabama resident as defined in Alabama Stud and Grant Program ACT 90; be a citizen of the United States or in the process of becoming a citizen of the United States; and not be enrolled and not intend to enroll in a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree in theology, divinity, or other fields of preparation for a religious vocation. Alabama Student Grant Program Application 2020-2021

 

 

2. CollegeCounts Scholarship

These scholarships in Alabama are awarded to first-time freshmen who demonstrate financial need and a strong desire to make a difference. Applicants must be Alabama residents and must enroll in a college or university within the state. Four-year students receive $4,000 while two-year students receive $2,000.  

 

Amount: $2,000 to $4,000

3. Linly Heflin Scholarship

Designed for Alabama women pursuing a four-year degree, recipients of this award receive $6,000 per year for four years or until graduation (whichever comes first).

 

Amount: $6,000 per year (Up to $24,000)

4. Alabama Home Builders Foundation Scholarship

Students pursuing an education related to a residential building at a junior college, technical school, or university within the state are eligible for these scholarships in Alabama. Some examples of commonly accepted majors are civil engineering, drafting and design, masonry, landscaping, and sustainable construction.

5. Alabama Funeral Directors Association Scholarship

This niche scholarship is geared towards students studying funeral service at an accredited mortuary science school. Applicants must be sponsored by a current member of the AFDA and should have plans to work in Alabama upon graduation.

Who Can Apply: Students intending to or currently studying at mortuary science school

6. Cross & Smith Scholarship

Cross & Smith believes giving back to the community is an important part of making a positive impact. To aid in this effort, each year the firm awards one student with $1,000 towards their college education. This is in hopes to ease the burden of college and help with the many expenses that students encounter each semester.

Who Can Apply: High school seniors or current college students that plan to pursue a law degree within the U.S. are eligible to apply.

7. JL Bedsole Scholarship (application is online here mid-September through the end of November)

The J.L. Bedsole Scholars Program is an Alabama scholarship for students who are residents of Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Monroe, or Washington counties. Seniors from Sweet Water High School in Marengo County may also apply. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5, an ACT score of at least 21, and must demonstrate adequate financial need. Alabama Scholarships for Dependent Students: Certain companies offer scholarships for students who are financial dependents of their employees.

8. AASOP Scholarship

The Alabama Association of School Office Personnel will award up to (4) $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree from a college of business or K-12 education. 9. Kids Chance Scholarship

Kids’ Chance scholarships fund college tuition or technical training to young people whose parent or parents have been permanently and totally disabled or killed on the job. The death or disabling injury of a parent in an on-the-job accident usually means that a family’s standard of living is permanently lowered. Without help from Kids’ Chance, these young people might not have the opportunity to continue their education. Scholarships are announced once a year, and students may apply every year they attend classes. Scholarships range from $500 to $2500. Conceived by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Alabama State Bar in 1992, Kids’ Chance is administered by the Alabama Law Foundation. Kids’ Chance scholarships are funded solely by contributions from corporations, organizations, and individuals.

Documents Required:

  • Transcript from current school of attendance (high school, college or technical school); financial aid letter from a college or technical school

  • Letters of recommendation (optional)

  • Proof that parent has been found permanently and totally disabled from an on-the-job injury. For example, a copy of a court order or statement from the workers’ compensation insurance carrier. A doctor’s statement or Social Security Administration statement are not sufficient.

  • Death certificate of deceased parent (if applicable)

  • Brief description of the accident

  • Copy of last year’s tax return of parent or guardian

11. Karl Jobst DDS Scholarship

The Karl Jobst DDS Scholarship was created to provide support to aspiring college graduates. Students from all majors and areas of study are encouraged to apply. Karl Jobst DDS, Grove, OK,  has seen struggling students who want nothing more than a college education but are denied due to finances. This scholarship hopes to reverse that, in part, for at least one student.

 

To be eligible, each applicant will be asked to submit a short essay of no more than 500 words. The award for this scholarship is $1,000 and all applications must be submitted by November 1, 2019. At the conclusion of the application period, a committee will confer and select a winner by December 1, 2019. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by January 1, 2020.

 

Eligibility: The following people are eligible for the Karl Jobst DDS scholarship:

  1. High school students graduating this calendar year, and have been accepted into a college, or university in the USA.

  2. Students currently enrolled in a college or university, and not yet reached their senior year.

 

All applicants must be a U.S. citizen from the 50 states or the District of Columbia.

Guidelines:

In 500 words or less, create an essay that discusses:

“The changes that you hope the US education system makes for college students”?

 

Application process:

Please complete each section of the form below, and all fields are required. By submitting an application, the applicant gives Karl Jobst DDS and affiliated companies consent to use their essay, name, and information for marketing and promotional purposes. There are no costs or fees associated with the application for this scholarship.

Winner selection:

The winner will be selected by the end of December 2019. The winner will be contacted and have two weeks to respond. If the winner does not respond, a new winner will be selected.

12. Princeton Prize in Race Relations

The Princeton Prize in Race Relations has honored more than 1,600 high school students who have worked to advance racial equity in their communities. We have listened, learned, and continue to learn, so much from the efforts of these young leaders as they advocate for and amplify the voices and lives of those who have been marginalized for far too long. They give us hope and are a reminder that each of us has the power to make a difference through important conversations, advocacy, and allyship.

Each of the Princeton Prize in Race Relations recipients receives an award of $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to a Symposium on Race at Princeton University, where they meet and engage with other Prize winners from across the country. Prize recipients and Certificate of Accomplishment recipients are recognized at ceremonies in their home regions by local Princeton alumni.

17. B2L Leadership Scholarship (spring)

Each year the executive committee of the B2L Board of Directors offers a scholarship to a high school senior whose parent is employed full-time at an ABA member bank. Applicants are judged on the basis of scholastic record, financial need, character, leadership, and potential for development. Applications are due mid-February and applicants are notified of their status early April.

18. SWAYZE WOODRUFF MEMORIAL MID-SOUTH SCHOLARSHIP

The American Quarter Horse Foundation (AQHF) endows the Swayze Woodruff Memorial Mid-South Scholarship as a $9,000 four-year award for high school seniors and college students. Members from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee with a passion for equestrian should apply. The application along with a transcript and reference letter are due by December 1st. Alabamans could also qualify for the Boon San Kitty Scholarship.

Applicants must write a 500-word essay reflecting their soaring goals in flight by November 14th.

The American Welding Society bestows the Airgas – Jerry Baker Scholarship to honor the United States' largest industrial distributor of gases and the president who sold Southern Welding Supply to Airgas in 1986. This $2,500 scholarship suits welding engineering majors who are attending college in Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. Funding can be renewed over four years for $10,000 in total. Applications are accepted from AWS members and non-members through February 15th.

Alabama Scholarships by Vocation: These are scholarships intended for students of particular majors or career interests.

 

  • The Charles Clarke Cordle Memorial Scholarship is an Alabama scholarship for students with an amateur FCC radio license who are majoring in an electronics or communications-related field. The scholarship is worth $1,000, and applicants must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.

 

  • The CASE Scholarship is a $1,500 Alabama scholarship for students majoring in Actuarial Science. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0, have taken and passed at least one actuarial science exam and have completed an actuarial science internship.

 

  • The SPE Warrior Basin Section Scholarship is a $1,000 Alabama scholarship for high school seniors planning on majoring in General or Chemical Engineering. Applicants must have received a letter of acceptance from at least one ABET-accredited college or university that has a Petroleum Engineering curriculum.

 

Alabama Scholarships by Religious Affiliation:

These are scholarships for students who are involved with a particular religious group.

 

  • The William Heath Educational Fund is an Alabama scholarship for male students pursuing a degree in ministry. Applicants must belong to an Episcopal or Methodist church.

 

Alabama Scholarships by College or County of Residence:

These are Alabama scholarships for students who live in certain parts of Alabama or who attend certain Alabama schools.

  • The Alabama Student Grant Program is a $1,200 Alabama scholarship for students of the following Alabama colleges: Birmingham-Southern College, Concordia College, Faulkner University, Huntingdon College, Judson College, Miles College, Oakwood College, Samford University, Selma University, Southeastern Bible College, Southern Vocational College, Spring Hill College, Stillman College or the University of Mobile. 

 

  • The J.L. Bedsole Scholars Program is an Alabama scholarship for students who are residents of Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Monroe, or Washington counties. Seniors from Sweet Water High School in Marengo County may also apply. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5, an ACT score of at least 21, and must demonstrate adequate financial need. Alabama Scholarships for Dependent Students: Certain companies offer scholarships for students who are financial dependents of their employees.

 

  • The Alabama Scholarship for Dependents of Blind Parents is offered to students who are residents of Alabama and who are also planning to attend college in Alabama.

 

  •  The Police Officer’s and Firefighter’s Survivors Educational Assistance Program is an Alabama scholarship offered to students who are dependents or spouses of police officers or firefighters killed in the line of duty in Alabama. Applicants must be undergraduate students at public colleges and universities in Alabama. 

 

  • The Alabama GI Dependents Scholarship is offered to students who are dependents or spouses or non-remarried widow or widower of disabled veterans who are enrolled in state-supported Alabama colleges.
